Guidelines Concerning Purchase and Use of ITE Test Charts

Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers (ITE)

  • 1. Guidelines Concerning Purchase
    • A) In principle, the purchase is made by the department using the test charts. When making a purchase, the unit making the purchase should be the size of a research department (lab) or business facility (up to 50 persons).

      • If different research departments (labs) or business facilities will use the materials, please have each unit purchase the materials.
      • When storing the chart data on a server, please refrain from allowing different departments to use the data.
    • B) If a research department that has not purchased the charts is participating in the joint development of some equipment, etc., if the partnering department has purchased the charts, use of the charts may be shared for the duration of the project.

    • C) Transparent test charts for high-definition TV are purchased as a set in principle. However, individual charts may be sold for the purpose of maintenance, for example if a chart was damaged.

  • 2. Guidelines Concerning Use
    • The test charts were created for the purposes of adjusting equipment and evaluating their performance. Because copyright protection applies depending on the chart, use of the charts for purposes other than the above stated purposes may cause copyright problems. Therefore, use the charts according to the following guidelines.

    • A) When using the charts for writing articles ITE does not refuse use of the charts if it is clearly indicated that they are used for an article.

    • B) In principle, use of the charts is permitted upon request to ITE if the use is limited in scope and for a non-business purpose.

    • C) Exhibitions (private viewing, broadcast equipment exhibit, etc.)

      • 1. Test charts and limited video sequences (charts) can be used for evaluating the performance of equipment being developed.
If the fixed form for permission of use is submitted, ITE will send a consent-of-use document.
In principle, please make a contact by one week before.

        Request for use(word style)
      • 2. Please refrain from joining together moving image sequences as a single moving sequence source for the equipment being developed.

    • D) Use of test charts for clearly business purposes is prohibited.

    • E) For other purposes and for special use purposes, please contact ITE.
