Institute of Japanese Television (Sannosuke Inada, Chairman)

Established on 30 September 1933 under the advocacy of Yujiro Kusunose of the Ministry of Communications Electric Laboratory. It comprised 17 members and was dissolved in 1937.

Established on 22 November 1946 with the aim of studying and discussing television-related science and technology.

 Institute of Television (Kenjiro Takayanagi, Chairman)

Organization name changed from "Society of Television" to "Institute of Television" on 1 April 1950.

 Institute of Television Engineers of Japan, Inc.

The Minister of Education recognized the corporate judicial person the Institute of Television on 1 June 1955. The new organization comprised 1,038 members and Yasujiro Niwa was named its first chairman.

 Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers, Inc.

The Minister of Education recognized the corporate judicial person the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers on 17 December 1996. As of September 2005 it comprised 5,943 members.
